im running out of titles because i lack creativitiy

oh hey there

My sports betting woes continue (standard), I took the Colts -4.5 and obv lost $300. I lost some more money betting random things like the coin toss (i suck at betting?), but Im more worried about a bet with my friend Will. I took the colts again with a breakfast at waffle house riding on the line. We dont call Will BIG COUNTRY for nothing, and Im probably gonna be buying 16 egg biscuits, 40 pancakes, and a metric ton of country ham for this kid one morning in the near future

Its ok peyton. You made that "CUT THAT MEAT, CUT THAT MEAT" commercial from a few years ago which I still yell out randomly to this day, so its all good.

i have continued kickin it with the kids next door

which included building one of the prettiest snowmen to ever grace the earth

Considering its just a lump of snow, Im not sure it ever counts as a snowman (snowmound perhaps?). Yes, I will in fact zoom in on the face so you can see it even better

beautiful. WOW, yes take another look at that. Im probably gonna print this picture out and put it up beside my diploma, because honestly, thats as impressive as any degree I can think of. Maybe ill just put it on the cover of all my dental school applications, HELLO INSTANT ACCEPTANCE?

Played some cards tonight to recover super bowl losses, Ive put my thoughts in red so you can understand what I'm thinking as I play

I ran out of room, but usually above "I love my career" the next thought is "Wow im going to waste this money shopping for T shirts and flatbill hats on the internet" or something to that effect

Other than that, ive been chilling with the fam and getting hustled at scrabble. Taras doing well with the twins, Dads doing well with his treatment, and everyone else is doing fine

life is good

life = blur

hahahahaha what just happened

the last 4 days in colorado have been such a fun, chaotic, blur that im still surprised it was real life and not a dream

We rented this awesome house in vail and eventually had 28 (? i think?) people staying there. Our friend Arch lives in Denver with his girlfriend Amanda and they were the only ones who knew everyone (he also organized the whole chaotic thing, im not even sure how), but there was a group of kids from UNC (me, drew, nic, ptuns and dtrain), tampa, Kansas, Chicago, and Colorado. It was a cool dynamic and no one was cliquey and i had a great time getting to know all the new people

between snowboarding all day, hanging out with friends all night, and the general insane party environment that 28 young people in one house will produce, I probably got about 2-3 hours of sleep per night. Combine this with the fact that my last 10 meals have been (in order)

1. burger king
2. burger king
3. mcdonalds
4. taco bell
5. chimichangas at a mexican restaraunt
6. chimichangas at a mexican restaraunt
7. dominoes pizza
8. chimichangas at a mexican restaraunt (they were really good OK?)
9. taco bell
10. mcdonalds

and you can clearly infer that I am feeling like im about to die and just want to sleep for the next 5 weeks. We got fresh powder every day, and the mountain was huge and awesome just like everyone said. It was great to hang out with drew and allison (our friend who lives in vail) as well, since we have been friends since 4th grade and are still going strong

we met and hung out with ally and some of her friends one night

and just cut a rug on the dance floor

which i havent done with drew and ally since middle school dances probably

A good time was had by all and between the snowboarding and dancing my quads got the workout of a lifetime. Luckily there was a hot tub at the house to soak the sore muscles in, except on night 1 we had like 13 people in it (it probably seats 6 max) and we overflowed over half the water onto the porch, hahahahahaah

I didnt bring a camera to the slopes, but ally snapped this one with her cell phone so its all you get

It wasn't too cold or crowded and the fresh snow was great, so we all got really good runs in. A couple times I got stuck in 5-6 feet of powder, and I cannot even begin to explain how tiring it is to hike out of deep snow at that altitude. It would take me like 10 minutes to make it 10 yards, and then I would just lay on the slope, rip off my helmet and goggles, and wheeze trying (and failing) to catch my breath hahahahaha. PEAK PHYSICAL CONDITION, THATS ME

We hung out in the back bowls a lot where the runs would look like this, and you just pick your lines and weave, trying not to run into trees (thanks again for the helmet mom and dad!)

One time i was cruising probably a little too fast and took a branch that I didn't see straight to the goggles and it just flattened me on my back. This caused a mini tree avalanche and 20 lbs of snow just dump down onto my face and chest, it was like it was straight out of a cartoon hahahahahaha

All in all it was a great time meeting lots of new people that I hope to see again and snowboarding on a sick mountain.

Ally, thanks so much for showing us around and letting us know all the local insider INFO yo

everyone says I have the grimy, ski-bum look down pat, maybe its my new calling?

Im home in CA for 48 hours before heading to NC for a while to hang with the family, so Im gonna unpack, wash some clothes, repack, eat all my perishable groceries, and see if I remember how to play poker.

Its been a great january, considering I have snowboarded Squaw Valley, Sierra, Kirkwood, Heavenly, and Vail, gone to the national championship game in pasadena, and seen lake tahoe, los angeles, hollywood, santa monica, san diego, denver, and vail. PHEW

time to take it easy for a bit

LOVE,

A good day all around

song of the day: Walking on a dream. The music video is funny because the two guys are absolutely nuts

First, dont get spoiled with all these updates right in a row because I can't sustain this level of productivity for sure

Second, Dads biopsy went really well about the cells on his tailbone and they got all the samples they needed without difficulty. Now we just wait and pray for favorable results on Tuesday

Third, I put in a lot of hours the last few days on the tables and am making some good $$$, which I feel hasn't happened in loooooooooooooooooong tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime

Fourth, I hit a royal flush which is always fun

You'll notice that my name on this particular site is "HARLEMHARLOT." Choosing screenames is a big deal to me on poker sites because you want to choose a name that annoys someone or makes them mad when they lose to you so that the revenge factor kicks in and they keep coming back for more. Justin and I were deciding on my new account name and after some winners were already taken like SWEETSUGA or MS.PASSION he suggested HARLEMHARLOT and a legend was born. Plus the site allows you to have a little picture beside your name, and mine is this

So if that doesn't get under someones skin, I dont think anything will. Genius, I know

Fifth, I made sauteed shrimp and asparagus for lunch and felt healthy. I ate it reading and looking out over the deck because its a beautiful day, BOOM perfect lunch

The only downside of today is that I just went in to use the bathroom and up until now I have been immune to asparagus pee. Everyone is always like MAN ASPARAGUS MAKES YOUR PEE SMELL SO TERRIBLE and im like yea yea yea whatever my body is a freakin machine because mine always smells normal and awesome

Well today i finally understand what everyone was saying all along. I'm just standing there doing my thing and boom the asparagus pee smell hits me like a 18 wheeler and I almost knock myself out. my senses reel as i wonder how such a terrible smell could come from my beautiful body and everything goes black as i fall unconcious

hahah just kidding about the last sentence but besides that it was a good day

see you guys later

ADDENDUM: wow i forgot this best part. I was looking at that old blog post and saw this picture

is that what I think it is? clear curvature on both the left and right leg? Is this the end of the cankles? probably not, but ill have to remember this pose angle so i can recreate it

roll tide part 2

So we made it to the rose bowl around 1:30 which gave us a few hours to wander around before kickoff. There is a municipal golf course right beside the rose bowl that they shut down and allow tons of people to park and tailgate on, which was a great environment. It was a standard beautiful california day as well:

Texas and Alabama have to be two of the schools with the most stereotypically funny fanbases, and they delivered. There were good old bama boys, nerds wearing cowboy chaps, 65 year old dolled up southern belles straight off the ranch, and plenty of other characters.

We ate some food, walked through the various tailgate chaos, and chatted it up with some folks before we went inside the stadium... the rose bowl is pretty short and wide so there wasn't really a bad seat in the house

Our tickets were in the Texas section so we of course let out a few ROLL TIDEEEEEEEEEEEEEs to let everyone know what was up. Mr. Vecchione, Sabo's friends dad from Ohio (the one who got us the tickets), sat with us and it was great to meet him and hear all his stories. He works for the BCS and his job entails something about communicating with all the athletic directors of the Universities, so he has been to every big college sporting event you can probably imagine. Certainly a great guy to be friends with if you want tickets to any college ANYTHING, if you smell what im steppin in. He thought it was hilarious that I play cards for a living and Sabo teaches inner city kids, and he couldn't stop laughing about how opposite our jobs were

So the game was great, though both fanbases really did feel terrible for Colt McCoy. Injuries are unfortunately a huge part of sports though, so what can you do. Bama led big throughout the game but then Texas made it exciting in the end, which was fun.

In the weirdest coincidence ever, Sabo spotted Sarah Roach, a good friend of ours from UNC, sitting really close to us at the game. So after the game we headed back to LA and met up in Hollywood to catch up with Roach, who has been working on an allstate football promo tour for the last few months. It was great to see her and I still can't believe in a stadium of 95,000 people, we were sitting with 25 yards of eachother hahahaaha

We crashed at our friends place again, and got up early the next morning to head to San Diego. We stopped at all the cool beach towns on the way, just eating and taking it easy. Here I am in famous laguna beach, looking around desperately for LC and Kristen and all those other crazy girls from the MTV show

San Diego was great, and we spend the next two days hanging out on the beach and then downtown eating and people watching. They have a really cool area in downtown San Diego called the gas lamp quarter that has a bunch of bars and restaurants where everyone goes on the weekends, so it was cool to see that. And you know Im gonna love any city that is 75 and sunny at the beginning of januaryyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Sadly, we headed back on the morning of the 10th because Sabo had to be at school the following day. Its about a long trip from SD back up to the bay, which some people would hate, but I think its fun to sing the lady gaga radio songs in a car for 7 hours (seriously). All in all it was a great trip, and socal was as cool as advertised

We put something like 1800 miles on the 4runner, and it handled it like a champ obviously. We will be back down there again I'm sure, I told Sabo we should just extend it a little more next time and do the entire west coast from Vancouver to Tijuana, YIKES

PEACE. I haven't played cards in like 4 weeks and I spent all yesterday rock climbing with Derek (I'm still horrible) so I should probably go try to earn some scrilla

ROLL TIDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

First, I cant stop listening to this song. Sabo tells me he won american idol or americas got talent or something... you know I hate those shows but this song is a banger

The road trip to socal was great, and snowboarding seems like it was forever ago. Two stories:

1) On day two, Sabo and I were at kirkwood where they were having power problems and could only keep 4 or 5 lifts running at a time. So there were a bunch of runs that hadn't been skied or snowboarded because people couldn't really get to them. So beside this one run we were doing, there was another run that was basically fresh powder because its lift was closed and not a lot of people could get to it. They were separated by this gentle gully filled with snow so I thought no biggy I can just cruise through it and then have an entire run to myself.

I knew I had to get some serious speed to get down and up this little valley in deep powder, so I bomb the top part of our run and make my break. The snow had filled in this gully making it look gentle, but what I basically was snowboarding into was this:

Any non idiot would realize this probably is bad news, but I have my moments and charge in anyway:

OWNED. I smashed into the far side of the hill at like 40 mph, flipped over and went head and shoulders first upside down into the snow. I thought I had completely shattered the front tip of my board, but luckily nothing happened (I still have no idea how). I managed to get about 5 pounds of snow packed INSIDE my goggles and in between my head and helmet, and it was right under the lift for the run that was open so I heard like 50 "OHHHHHHHHHH SH********************"s from people, which made me laugh.

2) Its the end of day 4 at Squaw Valley and sabo, scott, and I are trying to get in the last run. We were in some back bowl and got stuck on the top of some wide flat ridge, so scott and I had to unbind our snowboards and just jog to the next hill (flat areas are murder on a snowboard when you A) cant create your own momentum and B) dont have poles). So I jog ahead and clip up and go down the hill a bit to wait for the guys. All of a sudden I see a blur pass me on the left and start to pick up speed.... Its scott's snowboard, without scott. hahahahahahaah (he had bought it the day before for the new season). It has serious velocity at this point and 2 seconds later Sabo flys by on his skis to try and catch it but he can't even get close. Its whizzing by people (praise god it didnt hit anyone), hits a little ledge and goes airborne, and smashes into some unused hut at like a million miles per hour. Luckily it didn't break (Moral of the story: snowboards are resilient) but the image of scott sprinting over the ridge and then doing the walk of shame in his boots down the run cracked me up for 10 minutes

So theres a couple skiing stories so Mom won't yell at me for "no details," and now onto Socal.

We drove down on highway 1 right along the coast, and it was beautiful. We stopped in San Luis Obispo (everyone just calls it SLO, pronounced like "slow") to see Cal Poly where sean went to school. Rough life sean, its like the most beautiful campus ever and always great weather and set in these mountains right on the coast. People walk around in bathing suits and flip flops all year, ROUGH

We made it down to north hollywood and stayed with some of Sabo's friends from Carolina who were nice enough to put us up. It was pretty late when we got there, so we talked for a bit and passed out.

The next morning was the 7th, so we got up and went to check out Santa Monica before heading to Pasadena. Its a real rough place in january:

We chilled at the beach all morning and headed over to Pasadena around noon to catch some of the pregame chaos.

im hungry so Ill put up the rest later SEE YAAAAA

time to head south

Well we are back in oakland and Sabo and I are leaving for socal as soon as we unpack and repack

I will have to update later on all the ski stories because im gonna be late, but we had 2 more wonderful days of snowboarding and Scott even took off work and came up to chill with us the night of the 4th and ski squaw valley on the 5th

No serious injuries and no broken bones = success

It was a beautiful area and we all had a great time at every resort

Kirkwood even had power problems the day we were there, so a lot of the lifts werent running. To appease the public, they ended up giving us 2 free lift tickets for any day this season, which will probably save us like ~$180... SHIP IT

Great trip, off to Pasadena and LA

the bla bla bla blog is ba ba ba back

yes my friends it is the greatest day of your lives, the oakland hustle blog is back in action

im typing from beautiful lake tahoe, california but ill get to that later.

i hired two assistants to help me while I played cards at home

christmas break was wonderful, got to see the family and then the extended family a bunch which was great. i drew kyle's name this christmas and forgot his birthday earlier this year so I gave him 60 $1 dollar bills taped in a line which was fun. leah drew my name and hooked me up with an itunes gift card and some fresh threads that will surely melt the ladies hearts in oakland (thanks leah!)

that picture is shamelessly stolen from leahs blog. So I had a great time in NC hanging with the family, eating wonderful meals, getting owned at scrabble, owning at settlers of catan, being awesome at singing vocals in rock band, playing with the niece and nephew, etc etc etc

ANKLE BITERS. tara is crankin em out in batches of 2 every few years so give it a while and we will have an army (just kidding td)

big EZ also had a birthday on dec. 31st so we celebrated like we always do, eating delicious food and taking a picture of us around the table. I think we have a picture like this for every one of our birthdays back to who knows when. and that birthday poster and blow up cake would be in every single picture, hahahahahahaha

Mom dropped me off at the airport on the morning of the 1st (thanks ma!) and i made my way back to oakland. Sabo and I decided to take it easy the night of the 1st and leave for tahoe the next morning early, so we went out to eat with scott and his friend emily. we went to this really good korean place that scott had heard of (i had never had korean food before) and we got this crazy combination meal for 4. it was a ton of food and they filled up our table with plates of food that I couldnt pronounce, but it was all delicious

scott and emily, who is visiting from nyc or maybe minnesota where shes looking at med schools:

sabo and I, each looking great after having 12 hour trips back to oakland (can you tell where we went to school?)

so we pounded that, went back to our house, and talked with sean and mithil for a while who had just gotten back from jackson hole. we unpacked our bags from christmas and repacked them for snowboarding and crashed around 1 am with our alarms set for 4:45 am (kill me)

by some miracle we didnt snooze our alarms the next morning and got up and drove the 3 hours to tahoe.

kirkwood was closed because their generator literally exploded and they had no power, so we crushed sierra for the day (there are tons of resorts around lake tahoe, like kirkwood, heavenly, squaw valley, alpine meadows, sierra, etc etc etc).

We decided to stay here for all 4 days instead of going over to mammoth because we were worried about getting snowed in and missing the national championship, so we went to sierra yesterday, kirkwood today, hitting heavenly tomorrow, and then squaw valley on tuesday. Then we will head back to oakland, pit stop there for the night, and head to socal to keep living the good life

weve had 2 great days of skiing/snowboarding, but ill give details about that later because sabo and I have to go watch football games and crush the casinos for 10 trillion, PEACE
